The simplicity of design makes these incredibly versatile baby carriers. You can carry your child from birth through the toddler years, on the front, hip or back in a variety of carrying positions. Even very heavy babies can be carried comfortably for hours because the weight of the baby is distributed evenly across the torso of the carrier and onto the hips.

To the novice sling wearer the instructions for use and the length of the fabric can look alarming but with a little practice they are very quick and easy to put on. Once the sling is tied on you can lift your baby in and out without having to re-tie it each time.

Stretchy Wraps and Woven Wraps

Wrap-around carriers can be split into two groups.
Stretchy Wraps are made of fabrics with a significant amount of stretch (such as cotton jersey, cotton lycra or fleece). This means that you can tie the wrap on in the basic cross carry position and then put your baby in once the wrap is fully tied. The advantage of this is that they are easy for even wrap novices to use and you can tie them on before you go out and pop your baby in and out as required. However the stretchy fabrics aren't quite as supportive as the woven fabrics; so these wraps tend to be best used from birth up to about a year or so.

Woven Wraps are made from woven fabrics, they usually have a little stretch from the weave - enough 'give' to be comfortable and flexible, but they aren't as stretchy as the stretchy wraps. For some of the carrying positions this means you need to tie the wrap around your baby rather than tying the wrap first. This means the learning curve for using them is a little steeper. However the advantage is that you get superior back support for the adult wearing the wrap, so they are more suitable for using with heavy toddlers.

Stretchy Wraps

Kari-Me

The Kari-me is a UK manufactured wrap around carrier based on the traditional design but using a modern fabric. It is made of 90% cotton with a touch of lycra so is stretchy and snug fitting once tied in place. The softness and stretch of the Kari-me fabric makes this a particularly lovely sling to use with a newborn.

The fabric of the Kari-me is at its widest in the middle and then tapers towards the ends to make for easier tying. One size fits all with this sling; if you are smaller you just wrap it round more times.

Because of the nature of the fabric you need to tie the Kari-me on quite tightly so it fits you closely before you put the baby in. It then provides a lovely supportive and snug carry, which is very comfortable for both of you.

The Kari-me has 5 carrying positions: cradle hold, upright facing in, upright facing out, on the hip and on the back (click here for a photo of the back position). The same basic tying method is used for most positions.

Cuddly Wrap (now 100% organic)

The Cuddly Wrap is a stretchy wraparound carrier made of top quality 100% organic cotton jersey. The fabric has enough stretch so that it moves with you but is still supportive enough to provide excellent back support for the person carrying, even with older babies and toddlers.

The wrap is at its widest in the middle and tapers at the ends for easy tying. It has enough width in the middle to be used for back-carrying with older babies and toddlers. The basic tying method for a stretchy wraparound is used for most carrying positions.

As with our other stretchy wraps the Cuddly Wrap is designed so that one size fits all, and can be used in a wide variety of carrying positions including cradle, front facing in, front facing out and on the back.

Cuddly Wrap Fabric Information

The Cuddly Wrap is made from 100% organic cotton and is fairly traded. It is luxuriously soft and is beautiful quality.

The Cuddly Wrap is available in black, a vibrant red, subtle tan, rich brown and cool denim.

Moby Wrap

The Moby Wrap is another very popular stretchy wrap-around carrier. As with the other stretchy wraps it is ideal to use from birth but spreads the weight of heavy, older babies and toddlers very effectively too.

As with the other stretchy wraps the Moby Wrap can be used in a variety of carrying positions including cradle, tummy to tummy, facing out, on the hip and on the back. It is possible to breastfeed your baby in the Moby Wrap although older babies may need to feed in a more upright postion rather than a cradle hold.

The Moby Wrap is slightly more lightweight than the Cuddly Wrap and the Kari-me, so gives marginally less support but is a little cooler to wear.

As with the other stretchy wraps the Moby Wrap is designed to fit all shapes and sizes. The Moby Wrap is 6 metres long and about 22 inches wide in the middle, with tapered ends for easy tying.

The fabric of the Moby Wrap is 100% cotton and the wrap is machine washable.

The Moby Wrap is available in black, chocolate, indigo, red, navy, olive and moss.

Moby D

Another variation on the stretchy wrap, the Moby D has all the same advantages but something a little extra. The distinctive feature of the Moby D is the woven fabric panel that ends up in the middle at the front when the wrap is tied. This is partly decorative but also the addition of the woven panel provides a bit of extra support when using the wrap with an older and heavier baby.

As with our other stretchy wraps the Moby D Wrap is designed so that one size fits all. The Moby D is 22 inches wide and 6 metres long and tapers at the ends for easy tying. The basic tying method for a stretchy wraparound is used for most carrying positions. The Moby D can be used from birth right up to the toddler years.

The contrasting panel is set slightly off-centre. This is so that the wrap can be tied at the side rather than the front or back.

Moby D Fabric Information

The main part of the wrap is 100% cotton and the panel is in a contrasting fabric (currently either brocade silk or woven cotton). The Moby D is machine washable.

Currently available in black stretch cotton with an oriental embroidered silk panel in red or blue; in purple cotton with a lilac silk panel; or in chocolate cotton with a woven cotton panel of brown/earth toned stripes.

Calin Bleu Microfleece Wrap

The Calin Bleu Microfleece Wrap is a fantastic wrap sling for winter! Made of very thin yet sturdy microfleece, it is beautifully soft and will keep you and your baby warm throughout winter without the bulk of a large coat. The microfleece is light and highly breathable, allowing your baby to be comfortable without over-heating. It is also water repellant for all those unexpected showers. It is machine washable and dries quickly.

The microfleece has width-wise stretch and just a touch of lengthwise stretch. Fleece wraps are similar to stretchy wraps and use the wrap cross carry or the simple cross carry as a basic position. You can tie the wrap before you put your baby in so they are easy to use, even for wrap novices!

Calin Bleu Microfleece Wrap Sizing

The wraps are 5m long and are about 50cm wide in the middle. This is wide enough for a back carry but will take a little more practice than a back carry with a wider wrap. The ends are tapered for a slimmer knot.

One size fits all with this wrap, if you are smaller you can just wrap it round your waist another time or have longer ends after tying. If you are larger is it possible that you may need to tie the knot at the back rather than the front for the front cross carrying position.
The manufacturers recommendation is that this wrap is suitable from birth to about 12kg.

Calin Bleu Gauze Wrap

If you want a simple stylish baby carrier you’ll adore these UK made gauze slings in a range of fashionable colours.

The fabric is the same width throughout, with a slant cut end for an attractive finish. This wrap is wide enough to be used for back carrying babies once they have sufficient head control.

Ellaroo Wrap

The Ellaroo Wrap is a beautiful traditional wrap-around baby carrier, consisting of a single stretch of 100% hand-woven cotton made in Guatemala. The fabric of the Ellaroo is quite lightweight, so easy to manipulate and not too hot to wear.

The manufacturers recommend hand-washing the Ellaroo Wrap but it will cope with a wool cycle in a washing machine. All dyes used in these wraps are non-toxic. It is recommended that you set the dye before use, instructions are included with your purchase.

There are many and varied carrying positions with this wrap so it can be used from birth through to 2-3 years of age. You only need to learn one basic method of tying to get started; but if you enjoy experimenting there are loads of different ways of tying and using a wrap!

Ellaroo Wrap Sizing

Available in three sizes: small (4.2 metres), medium (4.6 metres) and large (5.2 metres).

Small - only suitable for very petite women (5’2” and size 8 or less).

Medium - suitable for most small to average sized people for all carrying methods.

Large - for people over 5’10” or 13st for all carrying methods.

Ellaroo Wrap Fabrics

The Ellaroo Wrap is 100% cotton, woven in Guatemala. It is available in a variety of beautiful fabrics. The colours are really vibrant, no photograph can really do them justice. You can also view larger images of most of the fabric choices on the main Ellaroo website.

Ordering and Delivery of Ellaroo Wraps

We try to keep most colours in stock in the medium size which is the most popular. We have a slightly more limited range in the large size. We do not keep stock of the small size as there is very little demand for them. If you would like a size/colour that is showing as out of stock when you try to order, or which is not shown in the list below; please email us and we will do our best to source it for you.

We are able to order in the XS length (3.6m) and the Rebozo length (2.7m) on request from the US. If you would like one of these sizes please email us and we can do a special order for you.

Storchenwiege Wrap

The Storchenwiege Wrap is a beautifully soft, top quality wrap carrier. The unique weaving method used in the production of the fabric enables children to be carried up to a higher weight range than with other carriers. The Storchenwiege weave is excellent at retaining its shape when in use which reduces the amount of adjustment required.

The Storchenwiege is manufactured in Germany. It has a double hemline for durability and tapered ends for easy tying. The fabric is prewashed and preshrunk and all the cotton used in the production of the Storchenwiege is Oeko Text 100 certified free from chemicals and residues. The Storchenwiege is machine washable.

As with all woven wraparounds the Storchenwiege is an incredibly versatile carrier, offering a wide variety of carrying positions (including front, hip and back) to suit babies and toddlers of all ages. The Storchenwiege comes with a detailed set of illustrated instructions.

Storchenwiege Wrap Sizing

We keep the Storchenwiege Wrap in stock in the 4.6m and the 5.2m sizes. We recommend the 4.6m for small to average height and build and the 5.2m for people who are taller than 5' 10" and/or large build.

The Storchenwiege also comes in 3.6m and 4.1m lengths. If you require one of these sizes please email us and we should be able to source one for you fairly quickly.

Storchenwiege Wrap Fabrics

The Storchenwiege Wrap is 100% cotton.
We offer the striped Storchenwiege in the colours shown below: Inka, Anna and Ulli.

The plain colour Storchenwiege Wraps are actually woven in a delicate diamond weave using two shades. The diamond weave of the leo Storchenwiege Wraps makes them exceptionally soft and flexible even when new.
From a distance they look like a solid colour but close up you can see the attractive diamond weave (see the enlarged portion of each swatch picture). The colours available are Leo Marine, Leo Turkis, Leo Natural and Leo Rouge.

Hoppediz Wrap

The Hoppediz Wrap is a high quality woven wrap at an affordable price. Distributed from Germany and hand woven in India, the Hoppediz is fairly traded and the fabric is certified free of any harmful chemical residues.

The fabric is reasonably thick so distributes the weight of even heavy toddlers very effectively, yet it is soft and pliable. It is woven in such a way that it has excellent diagonal 'give' for comfort and support. The fabric also grips well which helps the wrap stay in place once tied.

The middle of the Hoppediz Wrap is marked with a label and the top and bottom edges of each wrap are different colours which helps you to avoid twisting the fabric when tying. The ends are cut on a diagonal so they taper for easy tying.

Each Hoppediz Wrap comes with a fantastic full colour booklet of instructions in English; so even beginners should have no trouble getting to grips with wrap-tying technique!

The Hoppediz Wrap is machine washable and can even be washed at 60 degrees if required. The fabric is designed to shrink slightly on the first wash and the wrap is cut slightly larger when new to take this into account.
