Pouch Sling Instructions
Cradle Hold - perfect from birth

These instructions show you how to do a cradle carry using a pouch sling. The sling used in these pictures is a Coorie Fleece Pouch Sling.

Start with the pouch unfolded, label on the outside and curved edge up. Fold one edge in to meet the other as shown, so that the whole sling is doubled over on itself.

Put your left arm through the sling, then put it over your head. You should end up wearing it like a sash. Make sure that you have the open edges at the top rather than the fold. Pull the curved seam round so it is in the middle of your stomach. Hold you baby with your right arm as shown (her head towards your right shoulder and your hand under her bottom). Pull the outer edge of the sling away from you and lower her bottom first into the pouch. Her bottom should be in line with the seam.

Now ease her legs into the pouch and pull the fabric around her to support her, supporting her head as you do. Tuck her head in last and pull the fabric up so she is well supported.

Check that the inside edge of the pouch is between your stomach and your baby so that she is well down inside the pouch and nice and secure. Once in, this carrying position should be very secure for your baby and hands free for you. It is normal for them to look a little squished, this is a very natural position for a newborn and most babies are very happy like this!
